Check what your court wants by mail.

Does it take filings by mail?

Many courts take some filings by mail; others want them e-filed or brought in. Read your court’s filing page or call the clerk’s office first.

More about finding your court

Federal courts: the U.S. Courts court locator. State and local courts: your state’s court website. USA.gov’s courts page links to them.

How many copies?

Each court sets its own number. California’s small claims guide, for example, asks for the original and two copies. Set your copies in the uploader.

More about counting copies

A 6-page motion sent as an original and two copies is 18 pages, so it fits in $15.

Fees and return envelopes

If there’s a filing fee, see whether your court takes it online or by phone. If it wants a check or a stamped return envelope in the mailer, mail that filing yourself.

More about fees and returned copies

Ask the clerk whether you can pick up your stamped copies or see the filed copy online.

Signatures and deadlines

We print the signature on your file. If the court needs your ink signature, or the filing is due in days, file in person, or e-file if your court allows it.

More about tracking

When there’s time, your tracking number shows when the mailer was delivered.

What we do, and what we can’t.

We print exactly what you upload and mail it to the address you enter. We don’t file for you or give legal advice.

What we do

  • Printing on US Letter paper, black and white (color 5¢ a page)
  • Every copy you set, in one flat rigid mailer
  • A person checks it before it ships
  • A free tracking number by email

What we can’t do

  • A check or money order for the filing fee
  • A self-addressed stamped envelope for your copies
  • An original ink signature: we print the one on your file
  • Filing, e-filing, serving papers or signing a proof of service
  • A mailing or delivery date

Good to know.

Can you file my court papers for me?

No. We print what you upload and mail it to the address you enter, usually the clerk’s office. We don’t file or e-file, check your forms, or give legal advice.

How many copies can I send?

As many as your court asks for. Flat & tracked counts pages times copies across the order, and $15 covers up to 30 pages. A 6-page filing sent as an original and two copies is 18 pages. Longer orders are priced by page count on our pricing page.

Can you include the filing fee or a return envelope?

No. We can’t enclose a check, a money order or a self-addressed stamped envelope. If your court takes the fee online or by phone, pay it that way. If it needs a check in the envelope, mail that filing yourself.

Is it sent Certified Mail?

Flat & tracked comes with a free tracking number but isn’t Certified Mail. For a single copy of up to 5 pages, a Certified letter is $11 and goes USPS Certified Mail with a tracking number.

Can I get proof of who signed for it?

With a Certified letter, yes: Certified + return receipt is $14, for one copy of up to 5 pages. It’s USPS’s electronic return receipt, signed by whoever receives it. Flat & tracked doesn’t include one.

Will it get there before my deadline?

We don’t promise mailing or delivery dates. If a deadline is close, file in person, e-file if your court allows it, or mail it yourself at a post office counter and ask for a dated receipt.

Can you serve papers on the other side?

No. We’re not a process server and we can’t sign a proof of service. Your court’s rules say who may serve papers and how.

Skip the trip to the courthouse.
