Your notice says what the IRS needs, where to send it and by when. The IRS says to act by the due date. Use the mailing address printed on your notice, not one from a search.

Signatures
We print the signature on your file and never add one. Paper tax returns and some IRS forms need your own ink signature, which a printout can’t give. If yours does, sign the paper and mail it yourself.

The instructions for Form 1040-X, for example, say a paper return must be signed by hand. Replies and records that don’t need your signature are a good fit for us.
Deadlines
We don’t promise a mailing or delivery date, and we can’t give you a dated post office receipt. If a deadline is days away, mail it yourself at a post office counter.

The IRS counts a paper return as on time when it’s properly addressed, has enough postage and is postmarked by the due date (Topic no. 301).

We can’t put a check or money order in the envelope. Pay online with IRS Direct Pay or another option on the IRS payments page, then mail the paperwork with us.

Can you mail my reply to an IRS letter?
Yes. Upload your reply and any records, enter the address printed on your notice, and choose how it goes. A Certified letter is $11 for up to 5 pages and goes USPS Certified Mail with a tracking number.
Do you file my taxes or send them to the IRS electronically?
No. We don’t file, e-file or transmit anything, and we give no tax advice. We print what you upload and mail it to the address you enter.
Can I send a payment with it?
No. We can’t enclose a check or money order. Pay online with IRS Direct Pay or another option on the IRS payments page, and mail your paperwork with us.
Can I get proof of who signed for it?
Yes. Certified + return receipt is $14: the same Certified letter plus USPS’s electronic return receipt, signed by whoever receives it. USPS emails it to you once the letter is delivered.
Can you mail my signed tax return?
Only if a printed copy of your signature is acceptable for that form. Paper tax returns and some other IRS forms must be signed in ink, which a printout can’t do. If yours does, sign the paper and mail it yourself.
Where do I send it?
To the address on your notice. For a paper return, the IRS page “Where to file paper tax returns” lists addresses by form, state and whether you’re sending a payment. We mail to the address you enter and don’t look it up.
Will it arrive before the deadline?
We don’t promise mailing or delivery dates, and we can’t give you a post office receipt. If a deadline is close, mail it yourself at a post office counter and ask for a dated receipt.
